Set Up Test Type Packages Screen

The Set Up Test Type Packages screen (shown in Figure 1) is used to add, modify and if necessary delete test type packages from the database.  This screen is invoked by selecting the “Set Up Test Type Packages…” option on the File menu when the System Options and Defaults screen is open.

           Figure 1

Adding New Test Types

To add a new test type to your database you must first copy the required library file “PipetteTest.bpl” into the folder labeled “bin” under the ProCalV5 directory (typically “C:\Program Files\Prime Technologies\ProCal V5\bin”) in Windows Explorer.  The “PipetteTest.bpl” file contains all the information necessary for the test type’s automatic and proper setup in ProCal.  Once the file has been copied into the correct folder you may launch the Set Up Test Type Packages screen.  Once the screen is open you may click the Add New Record button or select “New Record” from the screen’s File menu.  This will invoke a browser screen titled Choose New Package File that automatically directs you to the “bin” folder in which all the “.bpl” files reside. Select the required file “PipetteTest.bpl” and click the Open button or double-click the file name.

Once the correct file has been selected you will be returned to the new test type record which will already be set up for you.  In this instance you can save the record, making it available for application to all types of item master records in the system (i.e. instruments, loops, systems, test instruments, in addition to any PM records that may require a calibration).  Once a test type has been saved to the database, as long as it is marked as “Active”, it will be available for selection on the Test Type field’s drop-down list on the Calibration Points tab in all screens where that tab exists.

            General Info Tab

The General Info tab (shown in Figure 2) will show information about the Test Type Package. The only modifiable fields are the Visual Prompt Label and Visual Prompt Hint. The entry in the Visual Prompt Label field is the label that the Visual Prompt button will be given in the CALIBRATION screen.  The entry in the Visual Prompt Hint field displays the same information that will be shown in the yellow hint box that appears when you hold your mouse over the Visual Prompt button

                                                                                                                                                Figure 2

            Field Options

The Field Options tab (shown in Figure 3) provides you with information regarding the appearance of and fields available on the Calibration Points tab in any master record where this Test Type has been selected. For this Test Type, there are no modifiable fields.

                                                                                                                                                Figure 3

            Additional Inputs

The Additional Inputs tab (shown in Figure 4) only has one check box for editing. The system defaults to allow ‘Readings per Setpoint’ to be edited at the calibration level. This will give the technicians the ability to edit the number of readings. Selecting ‘Restrict Editing’ check box, the number of Readings per setpoint can only be modified at the Master Item screen.

                                                                                                                                                Figure 4

Distributing Test Types

Test Types only need to be installed in the System Option and Defaults screen once, but for all Client, Administrator, or Mobile Workstations, the “PipetteTest.bpl” file must be present in the “bin” directory one level down from the ProCalV5 installation directory.

Entering Item Records Using The Pipette Test Type Package

When creating a new master record that uses the Pipette Test Type, the test type must be applied to the record through the Calibration Points tab on the master record screen.  Once a new group has been added to the record, click the Test Type drop-down list and select Pipette Test from the available test types, as shown in Figure 5:

                                                                                                                                                                                        Figure 5

Once the test type has been selected, tabbing off of the field will change the inputs according to the settings defined by the library file. See Figure 6 below.

Figure 6

This test type package is designed to record Pipette Calibration data. The conversion between mass and volume will be calculated outside of the test package, but the Test Type Package will calculate the accuracy & precision values at each test point. The example above shows 3 as the # Cal Pts (there must be at least 1) with a low, medium & high manually set up for the Test Function. The ‘Set Point’ and ‘Accuracy’ rows must also be filled in manually.

Note – The ‘Calculate’ & ‘Restore Defaults’ buttons, although active, will not function with this Test Type Package.

The Pipette Test Type requires that there be at least two Readings per volume for each Test Point in order to make the correct calculations. To set the number of readings for each test point, select the ‘Show Group Options’ button. (Shown in Figure 7)

Entering Calibration Records For Items That Use The Pipette Test Type

Once a Master Record has been created for the Pipette Test Type, the calibration data can be entered on the Test Results tab of the Calibration screen. Data for the test points should be entered on the Test Results screen, which can be accessed by clicking the View / Enter Data button on the left side of the screen. This interface is shown in Figure 8 on the next page. This grid below shows the ‘LOW’ portion already manually filled in. The ‘As Left’ values have generated ‘Fail’ readings. After all data is collected for a given set point (either As Found or As Left) the precision & accuracy as well as the result will be automatically calculated. The grid will only accept decimal number inputs. Upon entering the number, the unit of measurement will be automatically added to the display. All ‘Standard Value’, ‘As Found’ and ‘As Left’ readings are required to be entered.

                                                                                                                                                            Figure 8

The form will also contain 2 buttons:

·        Apply Button – sets all outputs on the calibration record. (Note this does not save the data to the database. Hitting the “Save” button on the calibration is required for this)

·        Close – Closes the input form.  If there have been modifications the user will be prompted if they want to “Apply” before closing.

Pass/Fail Criteria

  • As Found Failure = Any setpoint’s As Found Accuracy % OR Precision % > (greater than) Specified Limit for the current setpoint.
  • As Left Failure = Any setpoint’s As Left Accuracy % OR Precision % > (greater than) Specified Limit for the current setpoint.
  • The Specified Limit refers to the “Acc %” grid column for Accuracies and the “Prec %” grid column for Precisions, for a given set point.

If the “Separate As Found/As Left Readings” box is marked in the Calibration form, only the “As Found” Acc % and Prec % fields will be used for the Specified Limits. In this case, the “As Left” points in the grid are ignored even if the user has manually entered different values into these grid fields.
