Overview

PCX allows you to create Instrument, Test Standard, Loop, and Equipment records from a predefined Microsoft Excel file.


How to Import Assets in PCX

  1. Select the '+ New' button from the main menu and select 'Import Assets'. 
  2. A dialog window will appear where you can download the 'Asset Import Template' file from clicking the download icon.
  3. The spreadsheet contains 11 fields that will map to a new PCX asset record.  Please see 'Source File Definition' below for more information.
  4. Once you populate the Excel spreadsheet you will select 'Choose File' and navigate to the updated sheet.  Once the file is populated under the 'Title' section, you can select the 'Upload' button.
  5. You will notice after selecting the 'Upload' button that there is an option to 'Continue in Background'.  This allows you to continue to the use he system while the records upload.
  6. After the file uploads, you will return to the main view and get a green success banner stating 'Successfully uploaded <count> assets'.  
  7. If the upload fails for whatever reason, you receive a green banner stating 'Successfully uploaded <NUM> Assets but <NUM> failed.  Review the downloaded sheet for explanation'.  You will also notice a 'AssetsImportTemp(1).xlsx' will automatically download to the browser.  This will show any problems with the spreadsheet.

NameDescription
Asset Type (Required)The type of PCX asset.  This must be Instrument, Test Standard, Loop, or Equipment.
Asset ID (Required)The unique ID of the asset.
Name (Required)The name of the asset.
Next Calibration DateThe next scheduled calibration date for the asset.  This value must be in mm/dd/yyyy format.
FrequencyThe frequency of the calibration schedule.  This value must exist in the PCX tenant.
ManufacturerThe manufacturer of the PCX asset.  If the value does not exist in PCX, it will be created.
ModelThe model number of the PCX asset.
SerialThe serial number of the PCX asset.  
Physical LocationThe physical location of the PCX asset.  If the value does not exist in PCX, it will create the top level location.
DepartmentThe department of the PCX asset.  If the value does not exist in PCX, it will be created.
ClassificationThe classification of the PCX asset.  If the value does not exist in PCX, it will be created.


Common Errors

Can I reorder the columns in the spreadsheet?

Yes, that is feasible.


Can I remove any columns in the spreadsheet?

No, not at this time.


Can I relabel the columns in the spreadsheet?

No, not at this time.


Can I add a list of values in one column?

Yes, the 'classifications' field will accept multiple values separated by a semicolon.

Can I use formulas in the spreadsheet?

No, not at this time.


Can I run this in 'Test Mode' or 'undo'?

No, not at this time.


Can I import across multiple OUs at one time?

No, not at this time.  It will import into the current site you are connected to.


Can I add Loop components?

No, not at this time.
